This week we’ve focused on how to stay sharper longer and ways to minimize your chances of experiencing memory loss.

As I said yesterday, feed your body good things.  Feed it healthy food – feed it healthy relationships – feed it healthy puzzles and brain games – feed it healthy and positive thoughts.  We rely on our brains and minds for literally everything, even the passive bodily functions that we don’t actively think about, our brains just know to do them.  How this incredible and intuitive machine works even when we work against it…truly amazing.

On average, genetics only accounts for 10-33% of our health.  This means that the other 66-90% are within your control through lifestyle choices.  You may have heard me speak about epigenetics before. This cutting-edge research is pointing towards the notion that we are able to upregulate our DNA or down regulate it.  In simple terms, we can turn the bad genes on or off through the lifestyle we lead.  The same is true for brain health.  Makes the choices that are going to give you the best shot at making the most of the genes you were given at birth.  Life is gift, let’s treat it like one.

Your heart is the greatest healer of your life.  And your soul is the heart of your life.  Let’s start living, folks.  Today starts now.  Until we meet again, this is Dr. Higgins saying, good bye.
